Our Story

Working Towards a Better Tomorrow

Dealing with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks. Spark Passion for Computer Science Education emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support teachers endeavoring to bring computer science instruction to students.  Computer science teachers may feel isolated or unsupported, but together we can be agents for change.  We believe actions speak louder than words. Established in 2017, we’re driven by progressive ideas, bold actions, and a strong passion for helping students. Our experiences in offering computer science opportunities to children have taught us that such instruction can be creative, constructive, and powerful in fostering agency.
Underserved populations (females, minorities, students living in poverty and students in rural communities) are a priority. Computer science education needs to be implemented within a careful lens of equity, so that we don't exasperate the digital divide.
While there is not sufficient access to quality computer science instruction at all levels, we are particularly focused on elementary students.  We need to reach students before biases set in.  Just offering computer science to motivated students who want to take it as an elective in high school is just too late.
